Tiger fish in the dam can reach up to in excess of 8kgs. This has attracted the rods of sport fishermen from across the globe and has become a premier fly-fishing venue. Nkonkoni is perfectly situated with a private slipway, less than 2km from camp, from which to launch your boat and engage the Tiger!
The Biosphere is home to much diverse wild life. Elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and many other animals roam the unspoilt bushveld in and around Nkonkoni camp and hippo and crocodile can be observed in the dam. Structured Game and Research drives are available through Zimanga Private Game Reserve. Close to camp, we have a water hole with a viewing hide, which is a favourite stop-off for a whole range of animals and birds. Nkonkoni is also a bird watchers paradise with over 400 species identified, certainly the place to extend your knowledge base and life list.
Accommodation is in either thatched chalets or safari tents in our fisherman’s camp. If canvas is not your style, our chalets provide a little touch of class in the bush. Each chalet is air-conditioned with a choice of a spa-bath or Victorian bath or simply settle for showering under the stars. Chalets each have their own kitchenette, private boma and verandah from which to enjoy the beauty of Nkonkoni. Each tent sleeps 7 people and certainly provides an Out of Africa experience. Common dining facilities in the boma turn those African evenings into a social event to remember. As the tranquility of evening looms, enjoy the sounds of the bush with sundowners, while reminiscing over the day’s fishing from the boma viewing deck.
All accommodation is self-catering. Catering can be arranged on request.
The camp has two splash pools for cooling off during the hot summer months as well as DSTV in both bomas.
Here only the rising and falling of the sun mark time and the beauty of our piece of Africa will be engraved on your heart for ever.
